Today Chicken Rates Tracker

How we calculate and publish chicken rates?

A clear look at where our chicken rate data comes from, how we verify it, and how we calculate the figures shown across the site.

Overview

This page explains how Today Chicken Rates Tracker collects, verifies, and publishes the daily chicken rates shown across our homepage and city pages. We believe readers deserve to know not just what a number is, but where it came from and how it was checked.

Our goal with every rate we publish is the same: take official market data and present it in a clear, easy to read format, updated every day, without altering the underlying figures.

Our Data Sources

We rely on official government and district level sources for our rate data, rather than estimating prices ourselves. For most of the cities we cover, we reference the following sources directly:

  • Punjab Sahulat Bazaars Authority (PSBA), Government of Punjab: Our primary reference for chicken rates across cities in Punjab.
  • Food Department, Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: Covers every district and city we track in KP.
  • Office of the Commissioner Karachi, Government of Sindh: Our source for Karachi specifically.
  • District Government Lahore (Deputy Commissioner Lahore), Government of Punjab: Used to cross check Lahore specifically, alongside the provincial PSBA figures.

For Islamabad and Quetta, where a single centralized provincial portal is not available to us, we reference rates coordinated through the respective local district administration and commodity price control market committee for that city, rather than a single named online source.

How We Collect Rates

Each day, we pull the relevant chicken rate figures from the sources listed above for every city we cover. Rather than publishing raw government data as is, we reformat it into a clear, consistent, easy to read layout across our homepage and city pages, including farm gate, wholesale, live retail, and meat retail figures where available.

The goal at this stage is presentation, not alteration. The underlying figures come directly from the official source; our work is organizing them so they are easy to find and understand.

Verification Process

Before a rate is published, we manually check it against the official source for that city to confirm it has been recorded correctly. This is a manual review step rather than a fully automated one, which allows us to catch data entry errors or obvious mismatches before a rate goes live.

Publishing Schedule

We publish updated chicken rates every morning at 10:00 AM Pakistan Standard Time, once per day.

This timing is chosen to reflect the morning market activity across the cities we cover. Rates displayed on the site remain in place until the following day’s 10:00 AM update, unless a correction is issued in between.

How We Calculate Trends

On our city pages, the Highest, Lowest, and Average figures shown in the price trend section are calculated from that month’s recorded daily rates, either the current month to date or the most recently completed month, depending on how far into the month the page is being viewed.

  • Highest is the single highest daily rate recorded in the last month.
  • Lowest is the single lowest daily rate recorded in the last month.
  • Average is calculated across all daily rates recorded in the last month.

These figures update automatically as new daily rates are added.

Correction Process

If a published rate is found to be incorrect, whether identified by us or reported by a reader, we manually re-check the figure against the original official source and update it directly on the affected page.

We aim to review and correct reported errors within 48 hours. You can report a rate you believe is incorrect through our Contact Us page.

Limitations of Our Methodology

We believe in being upfront about where our process has limits, rather than overstating its precision.

  • For Islamabad and Quetta, we do not currently have a single centralized official portal to reference, unlike Punjab, KP, Karachi, and Lahore. Rates for these two cities are coordinated through local district and market committee channels rather than one named online source.
  • Government sources are updated on their own schedules, which may not always align exactly with our 10:00 AM publishing time, occasionally resulting in a short delay before a source change is reflected on our site.
  • Our verification process is manual rather than automated, which means it depends on careful daily review rather than a system that flags anomalies automatically.
  • Rates shown are city level reference figures and will not always match the exact price at every individual shop, as explained further on our Disclaimer page.

Questions About Our Methodology?

If you have questions about how a specific rate was calculated, or would like more detail on our sourcing for a particular city, we are happy to explain.
